Imagine… hundreds of people put on an XO (with the human as the X, and Earth as the O) to affirm their love for this exquisite planet, and to show their commitment to protect it every day. XOEarth.org

Imagine… thousands of people who see the eco XO want to wear one too to show their love for this superb planet, and because they want to start doing their share to protect it too.

Imagine… millions of people put on the XO to show they have started taking actions every day to help protect this magical planet, and to help build a truely "ecological society".

Countless consumers and fans put on the logos of their favorite corporate and sports "teams" that they support. To help manifest the momentum needed to protect our planet’s future, we need millions of ecological citizens to put on symbols (such as the XO) and messages in support of *Team Earth*.

So get a blue or green ink pen, marker, or needle and thread, and draw or sew the XO (with a human X and Earth O) on your clothes, personal belongings, skin* and/or an XO bracelet to show others that you are proud to be a human (X) loving the Earth (O) with your eco actions.

No One of Consequence

I notice a lot of people post this “random things about me” type of stuff. One of my friends sent me one today. A quick search of my flickr contacts shows that some of them have done this too.
I live in the 21st Century in America, so I’m sure I’m as narcissistic as the next guy, but I’ve never been able to bring myself to do one of those things. Along with all my other problems, I have shyness and questionable self-esteem, and they prevent me from revealing too much about myself. But, just because I’m procrastinating on about ten millions things I have to do right now, here’s one of those lists of random crap about me, if you should, for some reason, be bored enough to read this.

1. I love to pick theme music for things I’m doing. For instance, if I’ve been out of town, as I re-enter the city, I have to listen to songs about Chicago (or at least songs by Chicago artists). If I’m in the country, you can expect me to listen to Waylon Jennings and stuff like that. When I’m in California, I listen to a lot of Snoop Dogg and Tupac. Appalachians? Bluegrass. New York? Sinatra, Beastie Boys.

2. My favorite thing to do is go for a walk. I realize this makes me boring to most people.

3. I love Hee Haw. I also love Smokey and the Bandit. I could watch it ten thousand times.

4. I am married to the coolest and most beautiful girl I’ve ever met. We’re both extremely independent-minded people, but she’s my best friend and my favorite person in the world.

5. My heroes are pretty much all writers and artists and political rebels.

6. I consider myself a progressive guy, and I am when it comes to politics, the environment and culture… but besides that, I want everything to stay the same. I am jealous of Europe, because they have so many old buildings and historic sites. Here in America, we tear everything down and build a Costco.

7. I hate it when sports teams change their logos, or when a league adds expansion teams. Teams that leave a city, and move to another, are dead to me.

8. I spend very little money. Right now, I can’t think of anything I want to buy. I’m not a very big cog in the economic engine of America. I think I could be a really good hobo if I tried.

9. I’ve been following politics closely since I was five years old.

10. If I had a time machine, I would only use it to visit the past.

11. I do not like things on my hands. It has been years since I owned a pair of gloves. I wash my hands a lot. I’m probably close to the OCD category on that.

12. I remember facts in a linear way. If you name a year in the 20th Century, I can probably tell you who was in the World Series. I can tell you all the Presidents in order, what years they were in office, what party they belonged to, etc. Dates in history have meaning for me, because I visualize moments of time in order.

13. I go to the zoo at least twice per month, and I get annoyed when people call chimps and gibbons “monkeys.” I have to fight the urge to say, “They are no more monkeys than you are a monkey.”

14. I grew up mostly in Chicago, but also partly in rural Wisconsin (ten miles down a dead-end road!).

15. I have no dominant ethnicity, and I’m not even sure of exactly what my father’s complete ethnic background was, so I just think of myself as American. Born in this nation and raised by its culture. I’m not bullsh***ing you when I say I see each person as 100% an individual, and I could care less about race or religion or gender or orientation.

16. I worked for years in the corporate environment, and in management, but that is like another world, another life, to me now.

17. I drink way too much diet soda and not enough water.

18. I love the city and the country, but the suburbs creep me out a little.

19. I have never stolen anything. Not a pen. Not a piece of candy. Not one red cent. Once, I was dating a kleptomaniac. Seriously. It was weird. We’d walk out of a store and she’d shock me by showing me the makeup case she nabbed.

20. Somewhere along the line, I assigned a gender to all letters and numbers. Ask me if you want to know all of them, but here’s a sample: 3=female, 5=male, F=male, H=female

Load-ding walltape

I first saw the XXD load-ding mentioned on Acquire. I purchased it from A+R Store, which, to my knowledge is the only place you can buy it from in the U.S.

Some things to note.

1) You should use the supplied 3M stickytape to stick them together. If you don’t and your wall wart doesn’t apply enough pressure it will fall apart in the middle of the night (which is also why the thing doesn’t line up correctly in the later photos).

2) It stores flat for transport, but then the sticky stuff isn’t going to be so good for you. YMMV

3) They have a cutaway for the U.S. grounding cord if you need it. It also doubles as a mount point for a tackboard pin which they sell separately.

4) It comes in three colors: red, black, and pink. I prefer the one I got.

5) You can buy a bunch, nail them into the wall and use them to store pens and such. They even will sell it in bulk with corporate logos and shit.

I guess like many night photographers, the idea of finding, exploring and shooting a great tunnel really appeals. This tour, organised by TfL (Transport for London), could’ve gone a long way to addressing that but for their insane decision to ban DSLRs from the station.

You might already have read about it, it’s been trending on twitter and there’s a lot of negative stories on various photography forums.

Here’s the tale, with a little bit of opinion thrown in.

TfL uses the location for training and alongside that they manage to fit in some film location work. Like, it’s the station that appeared in V for Vendetta and Die Another Day. Generally, though, it’s closed to the public.

When the idea of tours was thrown around in the TfL office, someone obviously twigged that tours without photography would be a non-starter. The visitors on location backed that up, with every couple- and it was mostly couples- on our tour carrying at least one imaging device. At the same time, the corporate bods must’ve figured that with photo sharing at a high, lots of high quality images floating around the web would do harm to future tours. Why does that matter? £20/ ticket x 2500 tickets (TfL stats) makes quite a compelling argument.

So, what to do? A ban on DSLRs is the only option that’s logistically possible to enforce but with very capable compact-looking cameras available like the M9 (haha) or the more realistic X100/ PEN/ GF1 units it doesn’t stack up.

On location, the notices (and staff) gave little away, claiming the DSLR ban was due to "their combination of high-quality sensor and high resolution". A TfL employee I spoke to after the tour said it was due to them wanting to disallow urbexers from high quality images which could provide information about access points for illicit entry.

Subsequently, in a statement to The Verge TfL has expanded their actions saying: "there was not a ban on taking photos during tours. However, there were restrictions on professional cameras and tripods because we were concerned that people using them could delay the tours for others, as it was a very tight schedule."

Smacks of an excuse to me.

First of all DSLRs are de rigeur these days, used as an everyday imaging device by countless people. That doesn’t mean that every DSLR user is an avid photographer seeking to get the cleanest possible shot at great lengths.

Discount the guys who bought a DSLR because that’s what the man in the shop said they should buy and you’re left with those who bought one consciously, to record great pictures. Within that group there will be users who are unable to approach a situation pragmatically; who don’t see the potential in live documentary or abstraction, but these guys will be far outnumbered by those who can quickly line up their shot in the knowledge that an errant leg, arm or head can be dealt with in PP.

In the absence of owning a compact I had it in mind to take the D300 w/ 35mm f/2 and bluff ‘n’ blag my way through. Mother-in-law came to the rescue (how often can you say that?) with her Sony CyberShot thingy, the results from which are what you’re seeing here.

Given their inferior quality, I felt compelled to upload my images in their highest resolution… also thought it might be a good time to experiment with the whole Creative Commons licensing model…

Feel free to download and share as you deem fit – know any urbexers? :)

PEPSICO, QUAKER OATS & GMO: YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN
Global Revolution 1: American Revolution 2: Day 54: Communication 1
IronBoltBruce’s Kleptocracy Chronicles for 9 Nov 2011 (g1a2d0054c1)
How many examples of greed and corruption must you see before you act?

PepsiCo Inc. is a Fortune 500 global conglomerate with interests in the
manufacturing, marketing and distribution of grain-based snack foods,
beverages and other products. PepsiCo was formed in 1965 with the merger of
the Pepsi-Cola Company and Frito-Lay, Inc. PepsiCo has since expanded from
its namesake product Pepsi to a broader range of food and beverage brands,
the largest of which include an acquisition of Tropicana in 1998 and a
merger with Quaker Oats in 2001 – which added the Gatorade brand to its
portfolio as well.

Since 1989 Pepsico has contributed more than million to federal and
state political campaigns, and since 1997 they have spent an additional
million on lobbying. Topping their politician recipient list is former
Pennsylvania House Speaker John M. Perzel, the alleged mastermind of the
million "Computergate" scandal that pled guilty to corruption charges and is
currently awaiting sentencing. Rick Perry comes in number two, with Ed
Rendel, Barack Obama and George W. Bush rounding out the top five.

tinyurl.com/6ml7q2c

tinyurl.com/7ues4sh

tinyurl.com/6pwrqa2

We don’t know what Pepsico got from the money they gave to Perzel, but we do
know at least one thing they are getting from their lobbying investment: So
far, it has kept GMO warning labels off of their products.

"GMO" stands for "genetically modified organism", i.e. organisms whose
genetic material has been artificially altered using genetic engineering
techniques. The USA is the largest commercial grower of genetically
modified crops in the world, and at least 75% percent of the processed foods
consumed in America contain GMO ingredients.

tinyurl.com/26xkpfd

GMOs are banned or significantly restricted in 30 other countries around the
world, including Australia, Japan and all of the nations in the European
Union. But here in the Corporate States of America, consumers aren’t even
given the benefit of GMO warning labels so they can decide for themselves if
a risk exists and whether they are willing to accept it. To make matters
worse, IN AMERICA IT IS LEGAL TO LABEL FOOD PRODUCTS AS "NATURAL" EVEN IF
THEY CONTAIN GMO. And why are things that way? Because
profit-before-principle corporations like Pepsico – working through co-opted
and false fronts like the Organic Trade Association (OTA) – lobby to keep
them that way:

"General Mills (currently represented on the OTA board by Craig Weakly of
Small Planet Foods), H.J. Heinz Co. (invested in the Hain-Celestial Group),
PepsiCo (Tropicana and Quaker produce a few organic products), and Kellogg’s
(owns Kashi), joined a coalition of corporate giants – the "Coalition
Against the Costly Labeling Law" – including chemical makers Monsanto and
DuPont, agribusiness ConAgra, food processor Sara Lee, the pesticide
lobbying group CropLife and the junk food lobbying group the Grocery
Manufacturers Association, in spending some .5 million to defeat mandatory
GMO labels."

tinyurl.com/6xuxuo7

So before you sit down for your next piping-hot bowl of "healthy living"
Quaker oatmeal, consider this:

"Quaker Oats states that it is an ‘all-natural’ product. Pepsico/Quaker
Oats manages a processing plant that emits roughly 19,000 pounds of sulfuryl
fluoride yearly. Sulfuryl fluoride is a toxic greenhouse gas used to treat
crops like oats in storage."

Our Kleptocracy-controlled media focuses on America’s two-year election

of life or death, when in fact even at the Presidential level it makes no
more difference than the outcomes of Monday Night Football, American Idol,
Dancing With The Stars, Hillbilly Handfishing or the trial of Michael
Jackson’s doctor. U.S. elections are staged primarily to give Sheeple the
illusion of control so they will (a) vent their frustrations and expend
their energy, emotions and resources supporting or attacking the Puppet on
the Left hand or the Puppet on the Right, and consequently (b) never
recognize and challenge the common omnipotent Puppetmaster.

There was no real change in 2008. There was no real change in 2010. There
WILL be real change in 2012, but it won’t be coming from tele-brainwashed

LABELS (A POEM OF PROTEST)

"Democrat", "Republican",
The parties of the system;
Puppets both, for sale their votes,
No character or wisdom.

"Liberal", "Conservative",
For change or status quo?
Pick either one, the change is none,
All charlatans and whores.

Far "Left" we place the Anarchists,
Libertarians claim far "Right";
Yet both decry the government:
False continuum brought to light.

For oil, "We" bomb their mud huts,
Strip them bare, then offer "Aid";
And fake their retribution as
Pretext – a false flag raised.

Unarmed hundred thousands killed
By weapons of "Defense",
While rights are lost for "Freedom" sake -
On profit, all depends.

With stroke of pen, the "Patriot" Act,
And patriots’ gifts are taken;
Then "Citizens United" leaves
Our citizens forsaken.

We protest loss of liberties,
Put "World Wide Web" to use;
Cloudmark Authority censors us
For "messaging abuse".

They label us to finger-point,
With labels, "They" deride us;
Their labels keep us all at bay,
For with labels, "They" divide us.

HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL: POLICE PREDATORS, PANTEX, POLLUTION AND PAYOLA
Global Revolution 1: American Revolution 2: Day 59: Communication 1
IronBoltBruce’s Kleptocracy Chronicles for 14 Nov 2011 (g1a2d0059c1)
How many examples of greed and corruption must you see before you act?

Honeywell International is a Fortune 100 aviation, aerospace and defense
conglomerate based in Morristown NJ. They manufacture flight safety and
landing systems as well as jet engines, including engines for Unmanned
Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) such as those used in our omnipresent CIA’s MQ-9
Reaper (Predator B) drones. They also manufacture the "snoop drone" T-Hawk
Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) featured in the video links below and soon to be
deployed by a Big Brother/DHS-funded police force near you, but Honeywell
has no monopoly on the boom in converting the Skynet-like technology America
uses to kill civilians abroad for use in controlling the citizenry at home:

tinyurl.com/3lrr24b

Honeywell is in the consortium that runs the "Pantex Plant" near Amarillo TX
that assembles all of the nuclear bombs in the U.S. arsenal. Honeywell
Federal Manufacturing & Technologies, successor to the defense products of
AlliedSignal, operates the Kansas City Plant (where workers are currently on
strike for safer working conditions) which produces and assembles 85 percent
of the non-nuclear components of the bombs. Honeywell also makes automation
and control equipment used in home and industrial heating, and car products
such as Prestone and FRAM.

tinyurl.com/d7afgt6

The Center for Responsive Politics classifies Honeywell as a "Heavy Hitter"
in the Washington political payola department. Since 1999 they have made
,762,160 in political contributions – 53% to Republicans, 47% to Democrats
- including ,060 to John McCain and ,957 to Barack Obama. In
addition, since 1997 they have invested over million lobbying both sides
of the aisle.

tinyurl.com/c3c5qpd

tinyurl.com/bs5k9j4

In return for their bipartisan generosity, Honeywell has been "awarded" over
billion in government contracts since 2000, and over .5 billion last
year alone. And those fat federal contracts keep right on coming despite
the fact that since 1995 Honeywell has had 40 cases of misconduct totaling
3.2 million documented by the POGO Federal Contractor Misconduct
Database. This makes Honeywell not only a "heavy hitter" but a "frequent
offender", as are most of our Pentagon profiteers – Lockheed Martin, Boeing,
Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, Raytheon, et al. Honeywell’s offenses
include but are not limited to: mischarging the government, defective
products, illegal storage of hazardous waste, unreported hazardous chemical
releases, unauthorized chemical discharges, nuclear regulatory violations,
labor law violations, patent infringement, copyright infringement,
securities fraud, illegal monopolization, illegal exportation of chemicals,
air quality violations, release of hazardous air pollutants, water quality
violations, environmental quality violations, waste management violations,
age discrimination, ADA and OSHA violations.

tinyurl.com/c5r2k8m

tinyurl.com/cp5f8dz

Honeywell ranks high not only in Federal Contractor Misconduct but also
among Toxic Air Polluters:

www.peri.umass.edu/toxic_index/

And not included in any of the above is their historic role in making New
York’s Onondaga Lake one of the most polluted bodies of water in the United
States. For their corporate culpability they agreed to pay 1 million,
which for Honeywell International amounts to a penalty of less than 5 days’
revenue:

WILL be real change in 2012, but it won’t be coming from tele-brainwashed
couch potatoes, manipulated voter lists, rigged voting machines or
predetermined ballot counts. It will be coming from us…

The 99 Percent

I AM NOT ANONYMOUS. I AM AN AMERICAN.

I am not just a Consumer. I am a Citizen.

I will no longer be labeled Left or Right, Liberal or Conservative,
Demopublican or Republocrat.

I will no longer follow Puppets labeled Left or Right, Liberal or
Conservative, Demopublican or Republocrat.

I am the People. And I am coming for the Puppetmasters.

I am part of the 99 Percent. And I demand the following:

1. End the Fed.
2. Reverse Citizens United.
3. Repeal PATRIOT Act.
4. Expose 9/11 Truth.
5. End Profit Wars.
6. Refund Taxpayer Trillions.
7. Imprison the Kleptocrats.
8. Single Term Limits.

Or, if these demands are not addressed promptly:

1. Regime Change.

LABELS (A POEM OF PROTEST)

"Democrat", "Republican",
The parties of the system;
Puppets both, for sale their votes,
No character or wisdom.

"Liberal", "Conservative",
For change or status quo?
Pick either one, the change is none,
All charlatans and whores.

Far "Left" we place the Anarchists,
Libertarians claim far "Right";
Yet both decry the government:
False continuum brought to light.

For oil, "We" bomb their mud huts,
Strip them bare, then offer "Aid";
And fake their retribution as
Pretext – a false flag raised.

Unarmed hundred thousands killed
By weapons of "Defense",
While rights are lost for "Freedom" sake -
On profit, all depends.

With stroke of pen, the "Patriot" Act,
And patriots’ gifts are taken;
Then "Citizens United" leaves
Our citizens forsaken.

We protest loss of liberties,
Put "World Wide Web" to use;
Cloudmark Authority censors us
For "messaging abuse".

They label us to finger-point,
With labels, "They" deride us;
Their labels keep us all at bay,
For with labels, "They" divide us.
